No takers for “Noor”
Sonakshi's film flops at the Box Office
It seems like there are no takers for Sonakshi Sinha's brand of journalism.
The streak of success for female-driven Bollywood films seems to have come to a screeching halt on Sonakshi Sinha's “Noor”. The film couldn't find many takers in its first two days of release, making just Rs 3.43 crore at the box office.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film opened to Rs 1.54 crore on Friday, and only marginally improved on Saturday, with earnings of Rs 1.89 crore.
Recent female-centric films like “Naam Shabana” and “Begum Jaan” have also performed moderately at the Box Office. “Naam Shabana” has made Rs 36 crore in three weeks and “Begum Jaan” has tallied in Rs 17.83 crore in a week.
“Noor” is based on the novel “Karachi! You are Killing Me!” and is about a young journalist and her journey to bring more meaning to her life and profession.
Hindustan Times' review concluded, “'Noor' does not understand journalism, it fails to establish enough angst for the protest it hopes to ignite, it stops being the rom-com (the one thing that the movie was getting right) pretty soon and it does not give the victims enough time for us to empathise, nor does it ponder over the aggressors enough, for us to loathe them.”
