An Accidental Prime Minister

Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh

Producers of “The Accidental Prime Minister” have made public the poster of a feature film in which Bollywood actor Anupam Kher will play the role of former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Kher, 62, on Wednesday shared the first poster of the movie on his Twitter handle and expressed his excitement at his new role. In the poster, the actor can be seen sporting a blue turban, white beard and glasses, looking quite convincing as the former prime minister.

The poster reveals Singh's profile, partially concealed by Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi's shadow. There had always been a perception during Singh's ten-year stint as prime minister from 2004 that he had been under the shadow of Sonia who was considered the real power centre.

The film, based on the book 'The Accidental Prime Minister: The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh,' a 2014 memoir written by Dr. Sanjaya Baru, Dr. Singh's former media adviser, will mark the directorial debut of Vijay Ratnakar Gutte.

The shooting of the movie is expected to start in October and hit the theatres next year-end, a few months ahead of fresh general elections in India scheduled for early 2019.
