Birthday felicitation to artist Monirul Islam

Today marks the 74th birth anniversary of internationally acclaimed artist Monirul Islam - one who believes that art, aesthetics and emotions are the basics of human existence.

“I never felt the need to celebrate my birthday formally as I always felt shy. Yet, I have planned to celebrate the day with family. During my days in Madrid, Spain, friends would visit my residence on my birthdays. Today, thanks to social media, a large number of people wish me on this day, many of whom I don't even know! But I feel a sense of gratitude towards them. My joys know no bound when old friends wish me,” said Monirul Islam.

The artist has recently been in India's Vadodara where he took part in a 12-day international art workshop, organised by Uttarayan Art Foundation. “The spacious gardens, rivers and natural settings at the site are heavenly. I spent a wonderful time with many Indian and Bangladeshi artists, exchanging ideas about various creative ventures. I worked there for 18 hours a day,” said the artist.

The artist is going to Bhutan tomorrow on a five-day visit. “To alleviate the monotony of life and to stimulate the artistic spirit, one needs to travel. Cultural nourishment and art are necessary in every aspect of life. I would like to infuse life and surroundings with the beauty of art so that it becomes more enjoyable. One may say art is meaningless and has no importance. Yet art, culture, literature and education are all very necessary to ennoble the spirit,” he asserted.
