Bangladeshi painters' exhibition in UK

A painting exhibition featuring works by prominent Bangladeshi artists concluded yesterday at the Taliesin Art Centre, Swansea, UK. Two paintings by internationally acclaimed artist Shaid Kabir along with artworks by Mustafa Jamil Akbar, Nayan Dey, Jinnatun Jannat, Alik Kumar Raptan, Bobita Akhter, Mahamudul Hasan and several Bangladeshi children were on display. This exhibition was a part of the impact activities of the tri-nation (UK, Bangladesh and India) PACONDAA project that aims to reduce poverty by preventing diseases affecting vital aquaculture in those countries. 

Using a combination of art, storytelling and practical activities, the specialist academics aided hard-to-reach groups in Southern Bangladesh. Dr Sergei, a think-tank of the project, says, “We wanted to engage the community and the children creatively. We invited the artists, and the results were outstanding. We can tell a lot to the wider audience both in the UK and Bangladesh through these outstanding artworks.''

The two eminent artists and five young artists volunteered to travel to the remotely located villages and worked closely with the community. ''We invited young artists to encourage them and promote their works and thoughts that linked to poverty,'' says Dr Tanjil, an organiser of the project.

The exhibition also included 30 fantastic artworks of Bangladeshi children. The artists were invited to work with local children and introduce new drawing and storytelling techniques. The children learnt about new techniques and then used them to reflect their thoughts on poverty through their artworks and stories.
