Arno Kamolika to perform Shyama today

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), in partnership with Independent University Bangladesh (IUB), will present a Bharatanatyam interpretation of Tagore's dance drama “Shyama” today at 6:30pm at IUB Auditorium, Basundhara R/A in Dhaka.

Choreographed by Jai Govinda, the artistic director of Mandala Arts and Culture, Canada, the production will be performed by his disciple Arno Kamolika.

A romantic tragedy, “Shyama” is about a powerful royal court dancer who falls in love with a foreign merchant Bojrosen. Shankhanaad Mallick and Suranjana Hoque are vocalists while Firoze Khan (sitar), M. Moniruzzaman (flute), Asit Biswas (esraj), Swarup Hossain (tabla), Sayenden Supramaniyam (mridangam) and Jai Govinda (nattuvangam) accompany the musical, while Maisha Haque narrates.
