Ansarullah Bangla ‘informer’ held in Dhaka

Detectives today claimed to have arrested an informer of militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team from the Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area last night.

The arrestee was identified as Ahmed Wadud alias Jumman, 28, who is said to have worked up close with the media wing-chief of the militant organisation.

Jumman was arrested in a drive carried out in Mohammadpur’s Sher ShahSuri Road around 8:00pm, said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

“Militant posts are spread on the internet through coded messages. Jumman is a translator of those codes. He translated those texts and forwarded to his boss – Morshed Alam – who was recently arrested,” he said.

The information was said to have been obtained during primary quizzing.

Detectives also seized Tk 2 lakh, $2000 cash, some jihadi books and one laptop from his procession.

It was being suspected that the money would have been used for sending militants abroad for training. Police said they will look into the source of the cash.

On November 5, detectives arrested Morshed Alam alias Masum, the media wing chief of militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team, from Kalyanpur area of the capital.
