The body of a bullet-hit deer was found on Kuakata beach on Friday.
One Abul Hossain Raju found the body at Khajura point, about three kilometres from Kuakata zero point, in the evening.
The deer might have been killed by a group of poachers who hunt deer in Sundarbans and its adjoining areas, locals said.
Nobody came to recover the deer's body as of 2:00pm yesterday.
Contacted, Shekhor Chandra Das, officer-in-charge of Khajura forest office said he was not aware of the matter. “I will take necessary steps immediately,” he added.
On April 24 this year, another bullet-hit body of a deer recovered from the same spot. Khajura forest staff recovered the body and then buried it on the campus of the forest office.
Some fishermen said a group of people from Kalapara area in the district are involved in deer smuggling from Sundarbans and its adjoining areas.
