All accused acquitted

All accused acquitted

All the accused in a murder case, including Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar, a listed terrorist and an expelled leader of Jubo League, filed over killing Jubo Dal activist Azad Ali Khan in 1996 were acquitted yesterday.
As the charges against the accused could not be proved, they were acquitted, said Public Prosecutor Ayub Khan.
Judge Reza Tareque Ahmed of Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal gave the verdict.
On April 9, 1996, Jubo Dal activist Azad Ali was shot dead during a procession in Nandankanon area in the city. Azad's brother Selim Khan filed the case with Kotwali Police Station accusing ten Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League activists, said court sources.    
The other accused of the case were --- Sunil De, Mafizur Rahman Dulu, Surajit Barua, Utpal Kumar Chowdhury, Md Iftekar, Jafor Ullah, Md Shahnewaj, Humayun Kabir and Hafizur Rahman.
Babar was expelled from the central committee of Jubo League on June 29, 2013 following a gunfight led by him that left two people dead in CRB area of Chittagong city.
