AL-BNP clash kills Narayanganj Jubo League man

A Jubo League activist was killed and at least 12 were injured in a clash between the activists of the ruling Awami League and its associate bodies and BNP in Araihajar upazila of Narayanganj this morning.
The deceased was identified as Amzad Hossain Mollah, 38, an activist of the local youth front of AL, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting eyewitness.
A group of AL activists removed several posters which were pasted by BNP men at different points of Purinda Bazar in the upazila on Saturday, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of the Araihajar Police Station.
In protest, BNP today also removed some posters pasted by AL men in the Bazer, the OC said.
Following the incident, a chase and counter chase took place between the two-party men around 11:00am which later turned into a gunfight that left at least 12 people including AL youth front activist Mollah severely injured, the correspondent reports quoting police.
On information, law enforcers went to the spot and brought the situation under control, the police official added.
The injured were sent to different hospitals for treatment.
Of them, two people including Mollah were sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead.
Mozammel Haque, sub-inspector (SI) in-charge of DMCH camp, told The Daily Star that Mollah received a bullet in his chest.
The victim’s body also bore several injury marks, Mozammel said.
