AK Khandker resigns as SCF chief

Air Vice-Marshal (retd) AK Khandker has resigned as chairman of the Sector Commanders' Forum (SCF) this evening.
Khandker, who was the deputy chief of liberation forces in the war of Independence, came under fire from lawmakers of the treasury and opposition benches for the controversial claims he made in his recent book “1971: Bhitore Baire".
He claimed in the book that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had mentioned “Joy Pakistan” at the end of his historic March 7 speech in 1971.
Khandker sent a resignation letter to the acting secretary general of SFC Haroon Habib around 8:00pm.
In the letter Khandker states that due to his age, he is incapable of performing his responsibilities as the chairman of SCF, Haroon Habib told The Daily Star.
He did not mention anything about his recently published book in the resignation letter, Habib said
He added that a decision on Khandker’s bookwill be taken at a central working meeting of the SCF scheduled next Friday.
