Agro farm manager abducted for ransom in Khagrachhari

Habiganj schoolboy yet to be rescued

Criminals abducted the manager of an agriculture farm for ransom in Maradhulu area of Manikchhari upazila in the district on Friday evening.

The victim was Mohammad Jabad, who used to look after Shara Agro Farm in the area.

The farm sources said, a gang picked up Jabad and managing director of the farm Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury, on Friday evening at gunpoint, while they were visiting the areas of the farm.

The criminals released Ahsan after two hours of abduction but held Jabad hostage.  

The sources blamed the cadres of United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) for the abduction as the farm authorities had recently refuted to pay them illegal toll.

However, press and information secretary of UPDF Niran Chakma refuted the allegation of the abduction.

Meanwhile, a high school student of Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district, who was abducted a week ago, was yet to be rescued.

The victim, Md Muzammel Haque, 13, son of Dholai Mia in Bejura village was a Class X student at Jagadishpur JC High School, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

On September 13, Muzammel was abducted by a gang when he was returning from a marriage ceremony held at his uncle's house near Jaluabad village.

The gang later demanded Tk 10 lakh ransom from his family over mobile phone, said Madhabpur police.

The criminals also threatened to kill the boy if the family did not pay the amount.

Contacted, sub-inspector Muminul Islam of Madhabpur Police Station, also IO of the case, said they were doing all to rescue the boy.
