Actress Nayar Sultana kills herself

Once an eminent actress of the small screen, Nayar Sultana, who performed in the hugely popular character, Tuni, a young girl in Bangladesh Television serial "Ei Shob Din Ratri," took her own life Thursday night.

Informed, police reached her residence around 7:00pm and broke open the door to find her hanging from a ceiling fan with a cloth, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station in the capital.

The body of the 35-year-old actress was immediately sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. Morgue sources said she had committed suicide.

Her husband Al-Amin was arrested few hours into the incident as her mother Razia Sultana lodged a case with Gulshan Police Station against him, bringing allegation that he provoked Sultana to kill herself.

Sultana's conjugal life was not peaceful due to their differences over various issues in their family life, police said quoting the case statement.

Sultana left behind two minor daughters.
