Acting chief election commissioner Abdul Mobarak received death threat over his mobile phone this afternoon.

"I am the messenger of your death. Your lifespan has been decided. Your wife will become widow and children will become orphan soon," Alamgir Hossain, personal secretary to the commissioner, told The Daily Star about the call, quoting Mobarak saying it was from an unidentified caller.

The call came around 12:10pm while Mobarak was in a meeting with three other commissioners at his office at the EC Secretariat, Alamgir added.

No number, however, was seen in mobile screen when the phone came, he said.

Later around 4:30pm, Alamgir filed a general diary with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station to this matter.

During last couple of weeks, Mobarak drew criticisms from different quarters by making different comments that include BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia rubbed her nose on the ground by participating in the upazila elections.

He could not be contacted over phone this evening.
