ACC presses charges against Moudud, brother

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today pressed charges against BNP leader Moudud Ahmed and his brother Manjur Ahmed for occupying government's abandoned property in Gulshan.

Harun-ur-Rashid, a deputy director of the ACC who investigated the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka showing 28 people as procession witnesses.

Moudud, a standing committee member of BNP, has earlier got bail from the High Court while his brother has been shown fugitive in the charge sheet.

The investigator appealed to the court to issue an arrest warrant against Manjur.

On May 21, the ACC approved the charge sheet.

The case filed last year states that duo grabbed one bigha and 13 kathas of land in Gulshan. The land, grabbed between 1978 and 2006, is worth around Tk 300 crore.

ACC Commissioner Shahbuddin had said that the land was listed as an abandoned property that had belonged to a Pakistani citizen, Inge Maria Flatz, who left the country before 1972 and died in Vienna.       

However, on August 2, 1973, Moudud falsely showed that Flatz issued a power of attorney in favour of him.

Terming it a “'forged and fraudulent transaction”, the commissioner said the ACC obtained the death certificate of the woman which states that she died much earlier than the date when the power of attorney was issued.
