The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved the charge sheet against former Dhaka City Corporation mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka and four other in a case filed for corruption in a multi-storey car park project.
A deputy director of the anti-graft body, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, confirmed it to The Daily Star today.
ACC Deputy Director Harun-ur-Rashid filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on March 29, 2012.
According to the case statement, the corruption took place between 2007 and 2009 and caused a Tk-827 crore loss to the national exchequer.
In the case, the complainant said an ACC investigation had found that Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) gave DCC a 27-katha land in Dilkusha through illegal means. The DCC authorities made a deal with Nirman Trading to build a car park there.
As per the agreement with the DCC, the construction firm owns 70 percent of the project and the government the rest, which is illegal, the ACC official added.
