ACC decides in principle to probe Nur's wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided in principle to investigate the wealth of Nur Hossain, the prime accused of Narayanganj seven-murder case, to find whether he earned those legally.

The decision was taken recently on the basis of allegation against Nur's wealth, said Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer of the anti-graft body.

ACC commissioner Nasiruddin Ahmed told The Daily Star that the process of taking the decision finally is underway as he had yet to receive the relevant documents.

As per a media report published in the Bangla daily Somokal on May 23, the ACC gathered a lot of information about Nur's illegal wealth, Pranab said.

Earlier on May 21, the commission said that it started collecting information and documents to launch an inquiry into the allegations of amassing wealth by Nur Hossain.

Nur, expelled vice-president of Siddhirganj upazila Awami League, went into hiding after bodies of the seven people were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river on April 30 and May 1.

On April 27, seven people including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker were abducted and killed.

Nur is the prime accused in the case filed by Nazrul's widow Selina Islam.
