94th birthday of Ahmed Sharif today

Bangladesh Bhasha Samity will host a memorial lecture on Dr Ahmed Sharif today, the 94th birth anniversary of the renowned scholar, researcher of medieval Bangla literature, and forerunner of the freethought movement in Bangladesh, says a press release.

Prof Ahmed Kabir of Dhaka University will deliver the lecture at Lecture Theatre of the university at 4:00pm, while a memorial award will be given to Language Movement veteran Dr Ahmed Rafique. The event will be presided over by Prof Monsur Musa.

Another memorial lecture will be hosted by Swadesh Chinta Shangha on February 24, his 16th death anniversary, at the university's business studies faculty at 4:00pm. Litterateur Somiron Majumder of Kolkata will deliver it, and language veteran Protiva Mutshuddi and Nurul Haq Mehdi will receive the commemorative award.
