8 DU teachers hurt in AL attack

At least eight pro-BNP teachers of Dhaka University were injured as the activists of Muktijoddha Projonmo League attacked the teachers' sit-in near the High Court in the capital today.

Around 80 to 90 teachers of the BNP-backed White Panel were staging the sit-in at Kadam Fuara after being resisted by law enforcers when they heading towards Nayapaltan to join "March for Democracy" from the campus around 2:25pm.

At one stage, around 20 to 25 activist of Muktijoddha Projonmo League attacked the teachers from a stick-wielding procession, leaving at least eight teachers injured, reports our correspondent at the spot.

One of the injured was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Prof Tajmeri Islam and Prof Muzammel Haque, who were in the programme, claimed that the attackers also snatched their mobile phone sets.
