7-yr jail to youth for satirical song on Bangabandhu

A youth hailing from Khulna has been awarded seven-year imprisonment for writing a satirical song on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Judge KM Shamsul Alam of the Cyber Crimes Tribunal in Dhaka handed down the sentence to Tonmoy Mollick, a computer operator at a local shop in Dakop upazila of Khulna, today.
After composing the song, Tonmoy gave music to it, sold and distributed the audio song on October 26 last year.
Police on that day filed a case against Tanmoy with Dakop Police Station and submitted a probe report on February 18 this year to the court.
The court however framed charge against the convicted on May 16 under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, 2006 and heard from 10 prosecutor witnesses and the complaint as well.
