7 including 6 cops injured in Bogra BCL bomb attack

At least seven people including six policemen were injured in a crude bomb attack reportedly by a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Bogra town this evening.
The injured are: Officer-in-Charge (OC) AHM Faizur Rahman, Habilder Shahjahan Ali, constables: Delwar Hossain, Shahriar, Swapon and Ashikur of Bogra Sadar Police Station; and a makeshift vendor Badal, 32; reports our Bogra correspondent.
The injured policemen were rushed to the Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital, said Gaziur Rahman, assistant superintended of police in Bogra (Sadar).
The policemen came under attack as they took position at Shatmatha intersection in the town near a BCL party office to avert an infighting between two factions of the ruling Awami League backed student wing over inducting own men in the local units, the ASP said.
Factions of the local BCL units -- one led by Jewel group and another by Julfikar and Chhoto Liton group -- were engaged in a showdown since afternoon over their two-month feud on giving posts to their own followers.
On information, additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert any untoward situation this evening while at one stage a rival faction of BCL allegedly hurled three crude bombs at the policemen leaving six police personnel and a small trader wounded.
Police also fired around 15 rounds rubber bullets and five tear shell canisters to disperse the BCL activists, the ASP said.
Contacted, BCL district unit General Secretary Mashrafi Hiro said Jubo League men might have instigated the rival group to lead the attack.
