7 fishermen missing in Bay

Seven fishermen went missing when a fishing trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal yesterday morning.

 Fifteen others were rescued by the fishermen of another fishing trawler and brought to Mohipur area in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali.

Of the missing seven, one was identified as Kutti Majhi, 60, of Omarpur village in Charfassion upazila of Bhola while the identity of the others could not be known till filling up of this report around 7:00pm yesterday.

Nazrul Islam, owner of the trawler FB Majib-1, said the trawler with 22 fishermen on board capsized near Moulvir Char area after being hit by a strong tidal wave around 11:00am.

The trawler was returning to Mohipur after fishing in the Bay for the last eight days, Nazrul said.

Bachchu Majhi, leader of the capsized trawler who was among the rescued 15, informed us about the incident, added Nazrul.
