6 Islamic programme presenters sued for Faruqi killing
Six presenters of Islamic programmes in different private television channels have been sued for the killing of Supreme Court mosque imam Sheikh Nurul Islam Faruqi.
A group of unidentified assailants slit the throat of Faruki, aged around 60, at his East Rajabazar house in Dhaka on August 11. He was also international affairs secretary of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, an Islamist group. He also owned a hajj agency, Faruki Tours and Travels Private Ltd.
The accused are: Tareque Monowar, Kamal Uddin Jafari, Kazi Ibrahim, Arkan Ullah Haruni, Khaled Shifullah Bakshi and Mukhtar Ahmed.
Monowar and Jafari present Islamic programmes in both the ATN Bangla and ntv, while Ibrahim in Diganta and Peace TV of India, Bakshi in Rtv and Radio Today, Mukhtar in Banglavision and Haruni in ATN Bangla.
Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur of Dhaka recoded the statement of the plaintiff and directed the officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station to register the complaint as a regular case and carry out investigation along with another case filed following the murder.
Emran Husain Tushar, Dhaka city general secretary of Islami Chhatra Sena, student wing of Bangladesh Islami Front, filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.
