50kg explosive seized at Keraniganj

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police this evening seized 50kg of explosive from a depot at Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital and arrested an employee of the depot.

CID officials said around 1,000 crude bombs can be made using the explosive.

Acting on a tip-off, a CID team raided a depot at Jinjira under Keraniganj Model Police Station, Ashraful Islam, special superintendent of the CID, said at a press conference its headquarters.

He added that they recovered around 50kg of explosive items from the depot and picked up Sawapan Kumar Roy, 40.  

Ashraful said the owner of the depot managed to flee sensing presence of the law enforces.

“They were running business of such explosive items in the area illegally,” the CID official said.   

A case is under process to be filed with the Keraniganj Model Police Station.
