5 held with 12 pounds of cobra venom in Joypurhat

This August 23 Star photo shows smuggled cobra venom worth Tk 100 crore seized by Border Guard Bangladesh men from a private car in Benapole of Jessore. A youth was arrested with the venom at Amrakhali in Benapole.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five persons along with 12 pounds of cobra snake venom from different parts of Joypurhat last night.

A team of Joypurhat Rab-5 raided a room of Hotel Boishakhi, a residential hotel in Joypurhat town, at about 8.30pm and arrested two people along with the venom worth Tk 68 crore.

Major Abdur Rahim, commanding officer of Joypurhat Rab-5, disclosed it while addressing a press conference this morning.

Based on information given by the duo, Rab men later arrested three more persons.

The elite force identified the arrestees as Md Mozammal Haque, Enamul Haque, Sohag Hossain, Motleb Hossain and Morshed Ali.

The venom was prepared by the French company, Red Dragon, said the Rab official.

On August 23 this year, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel arrested a venom smuggler along with cobra snake poison worth Tk 100 crore in Benapole of Jessore.
