5 crude bombs found during DU convocation

Five crude bombs were found from a toilet at the Arts Faculty building and Mokarram Bhaban of Dhaka University this morning during the ceremony of the institution’s 49th convocation.

Students spotted four explosives inside a toilet on the ground floor of the Arts Faculty building, said Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station.

Informed, a team of bomb disposal unit of Detective Branch (DB) rushed to the spot and recovered the bombs around 11:00am, the OC said.

Later, the detectives also recovered another handmade bomb near the entrance of Mokarram Bhaban, which is adjacent to the university’s playground where the convocation ceremony is going on.

No one was arrested in this regard.

Around 6,104 DU students including 3,367 female students are expected to collect their certificates during the today’s convocation.
