4 RU students held

Police today detained four students when leaders and activists of some left-leaning parties tried to form a human chain ignoring a ban on political activities on the campus.

Leaders and activists of Progotishil Chhatra Jote, a platform of leftist student bodies at RU, gathered in front of the Central Library around 11:45am to form a human chain protesting what they said ongoing harassment of female students on the campus.

At one state, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the protesters, reports our Rajshahi University correspondent.

They also picked up Chhatra Federation president Farroque Imon, Biplobi Chhatra Moitri president Prodip Marby, its general secretary Dilip Roy and its former president Suman Augastin Shoren from the spot.

Assistant Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Iftekhayr Alam said the university authorities have imposed a ban on political activities on the campus following recent political unrest.

“We in line with the directives of the university authorities have detained the four students as they were attempting to hold the human chain violating the ban,” he added.
