4 held with gold bars at Shahjalal airport
Members of Airport Armed police (AAP) detained four people and recovered gold bars and ornaments weighing about 1.3 kilogrammes at Shahjalal International Airport of the capital on Thursday night.
The detainees are Md Salahuddin, Md Hafizur Rahman, Mizanur Rahman and Alamgir Molla.
Senior ASP of AAP Alamgir Hossain said Mizanur and Alamgir arrived here from Singapore by a flight of Bangladesh Biman around 8:00pm while Salahuddin came here by a flight of Tiger Airlines from Singapore and Hafizur Rahman from Kuala Lumpur by a flight of Malaysian Airlines at 11:00pm.
When Mizan and Alamgir were leaving green channel, AAP members challenged them around 9:00pm. They recovered three gold bars and 33 pieces of gold chains from their possession.
Meanwhile, AAP members challenged Salahuddin and Hafizur when they crossed the green channel around 11:45pm and seized five gold bars from their possession.
The present market value of the seized gold is Tk 61 lakh.
They were handed over to the customs authorities, ASP Alamgir added.
