4 die in Noakhali road crash

At least four people including two Jubo League activists were killed and two injured when a bus crashed into a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali late last night.

The incident took place on the Sonaimuri-Chatkhil road in Junaidpur area around 11:00pm, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting Ashraful Alam, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station.

The dead were Md Emran, 40, Jubo League vice president of Nandana union in the upazila, Md Suman, 36, member of Sonaimuri upazila Jubo League, Md Mijanur Rahman, 38, owner of Habib bricks, and Badsha Mia, 35, driver of the auto-rickshaw.

“Mijan, Emran and Suman died on the spot while driver Badsha died on the way to Sonaimuri Upazila Health Complex,” the OC said. “A case has been filed in this connection.”

Angered locals vandalised the bus and blocked the road for an hour before police took control of the situation. The bus was seized but its driver managed to flee.

The bodies were sent to Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College for autopsy.
