4 Bangladeshis die in Saudi road crash

Four Bangladeshi workers have been killed in a car crash in Saudi Arabia. 

The accident happened on Sunday afternoon when the vehicle skidded off the road and landed upside down in Jeddah after the driver lost control over the steering, Mokammel Hossain, labour counsellor at Bangladesh Consulate, told The Daily Star today.

Five Bangladeshis and two Pakistan nationals were travelling in the car during the accident, he added.

Three Bangladeshis and the Saudi car driver died on the spot while another fourth Bangladeshi national died at a hospital.

The deceased were identified as Yeasin, son of Nurul Islam of Brahmanbaria; Abdul Halim, son of Abdul Majid of Tangail; Amanullah, son of Habibullah of Comilla; and Sheikh Harun, son of Sheikh Abdul Khalek of Chandpur.

Shahjahan, the fifth Bangladeshi travelling in the car, is still undergoing treatment at a hospital while the bodies of four Bangladeshis have been kept at a mortuary of the hospital.

Last May 12, nine Bangladeshis were killed as a fire swept through a furniture factory in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
