3 shot dead in Pabna

Three people were shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Ataikula upazila of Pabna this evening.

Claiming the victims to be their activists, local Awami League leaders blamed the BNP-Jamaat men for the attack.

The incident took place around 7:30pm at Puspopara Bazar, Akram Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ataikula Police Station, told our Pabna correspondent.

The deceased were identified as Md Abdus Salam, 35, Fazlur Rahman, 32, and Sultan Mahmud, 30, of Pabna Sadar upazila.

Md Russel Ali Masud, organising secretary of Pabna Sadar upazila AL, confirmed their affiliation with the ruling party, saying Sultan belonged to Jubo League.

Masud said the attack took place when a ward level AL meeting was going on in Pushpopara haat around 7:30pm. The attackers suddenly opened fire, leaving the three dead and a few others injured, he added.

Salam, Fazlu and Sultan died on the spot while there was no trace of Sramik League leader Moznu, Masud claimed adding three others were injured in the attack.

“BNP-Jamaat men gunned down them in a planned way over political enmity,” Masud said.
