3 killed in Comilla road crash

At least three people were killed and 13 injured as two buses collided head-on on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla this morning.

All of the deceased -- Swapan, 17, and Ikramul Haq, 36, of Gobindapur upazila of Gaibandha and Jahirul Islam, 45, of Bogra Sadar upazila -- were identified as day labourers.

They were working under four-lane project on Dhaka-Chittagong highway taken by Roads and Highways Department, reports our Daudkandi correspondent.

A Feni-bound bus Rumar Paribahan from Gaibandha collided with an oncoming bus of Trisha Paribahan at Baropara around 11:15am, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Highway Police.

Jahirul died on the spot while Swapan and Ikramul succumbed to their injuries at Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex, the police official added.

Three of the injured were immediately sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in critical condition while the rest were whisked off to the health complex, he said.
