3 Jamaat-Shibir men held in Dhaka

Police detained three Jamaat-Shibir members for vandalising vehicles in Shahjadpur area of Gulshan in Dhaka this afternoon soon after the verdict of Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
Some 150-200 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir brought out a demonstration in the area around 1:00pm, Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, told The Daily Star.
The three men were chased down by law enforcers after the Jamaat-Shibir demonstrators started to throw brick chips on vehicles which were plying the road, the OC said.
The Supreme Court today commuted the death sentence of Delawar Hossain Sayedee to imprisonment till death for his crimes against humanity committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
A five-member bench of the apex court, headed by the Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain, pronounced the verdict at 10:06am by majority view amid tight security.
