3 housewives murdered

Three housewives have been killed allegedly by their husbands in Panchagarh, Satkhira and  Barisal districts.

A newly wed housewife was murdered early Sunday allegedly by her husband at Kaharpara village in Panchagarh Sadar upazila over dowry, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

The deceased was Parvin Akhter, 20, wife of Abdus Salam of Kaharpara village under the same upazila.  

Police and local sources said, Parvin, daughter of Toriqul Islam of Langolgaon village of Panchagarh sadar upazila, was married to Abdus Salam, son of late Shahidul Islam of Kaharpara village under the same upazila, seven months ago with a commitment to pay Tk 70,000 as dowry.

Of the amount, Parvin's family gave about Tk 40,000 and sought further time to pay the rest.  

As her family could not pay the sum, Abdus Salam started to torture Parvin after two months of their marriage. 

On the fateful day, at about 3:00am, Salam beat her dead and dumped her body in a pond.

A housewife was strangled allegedly by her husband for dowry at Bakal Islampur in Sadar upazila of Satkhira on Sunday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Rafiza Khatun, 35, wife of Khokon Baburchi.

Family of the deceased alleged that Khokon used to torture Rafiza for dowry since their marriage seven years back.

Khokon strangled Rafiza and then hanged the body with a rope as if she had committed suicide, they said.

In Barisal, police arrested a man on charge of hacking his wife to death on Saturday morning at Ashukathi under Gournadi upazila, reports our correspondent.

Abul Kalam, officer in-charge of Gournadi police station, quoting family sources, said Abdur Rahman, 55, was chopping fuel wood at the courtyard and his wife Mukuli Begum, 45, was stacking those in the kitchen.

At one stage, the couple locked in an altercation over a matter and furious Rahman hit his wife with the axe.

Family members rushed the woman to Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital where she died at 11:30am the same day.

Police arrested Abdur Rahman from the village.
