Three people died under the wheels of separate trains in Dhaka’s Kuril Biswaroad area and Tongi today on the last day of the Biswa Ijtema.

Only one of the deceased could be primarily identified as Harun, 40. He was on his way to attend the Akheri Munazat of Ijtema, police said.

Two persons were crushed under the Parabat Express in Kuril Biswaroad area around 8:00am and another in Tongi area about an hour later, said Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station.

“The two people crushed under Parabat Express were on their way to Ijtema,” he said. “The other man, who died in Tongi, was a jaywalker.”

The incidents take place on the last day of the second phase of Ijtema, the second largest Muslims’ religious gathering around the world, where scores of people are expected to attend.

The rail route is the most popular means of transportation to the Ijtema with the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s countrywide blockade prevailing since January 4.
