Ruling Awami League today accused BNP of pulling false complaints and trying to mar the city corporation elections to Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal.

"The elections are progressing in a festive atmosphere. There have been no untoward incidents except one or two strays," Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of the Awami League said in an impromptu reaction today.

Speaking from the Dhanmondi political office of Awami League president, Hanif said: "Pulling accusations that their agents have been kicked out is an old habit of BNP. They are doing this in fear of losing the election."

"BNP is pulling such excuses to mar the city corporation elections. Let them (BNP) bring specific allegations that their agents have been kicked out. Two agents of Awami League have been kicked out at two centres of Barisal," he said.

Reports of rigging, claims and counter-claims have been coming in since the city corporation elections to Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal began this morning.
