3 children hurt in firing range shell blast

Three minor boys were injured as a shell from firing range exploded in Ghatail upazila of Tangail this afternoon.  

The explosion took place at Maidharchala field firing range of Shaheed Salahuddin Cantonment when the children reportedly went there to collect abandoned shell splinters around 3:30pm, police said.

Tushar, 12, Ashique, 13, and Raihan, 13, were admitted to the Combined Military Hospital in Ghatail, our Tangail correspondent reports quoting Fazlul Kabir, officer-in-charge, of Ghatail Police Station.

Among the injured, condition of Tusher and Ashique are critical, he said.

The children hailing from adjacent Brammanshashan village in Digor union sustained splinter injuries in the explosion, the OC said.

Army members of 15 Battalion from Bogra conducted a training exercise at the firing range yesterday, the OC added. 

The OC, however, could not provide details of the explosion.

Mentionable, such incidents occurred several occasions at the firing range causing number of deaths and injuries, police said.

Earlier on February 12, two army men and three members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) died in a mortar shell explosion at the firing range.
