20-party yet to decide on blockade during SSC exams

BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan this evening said the 20-party alliance leaders will decide on their nonstop blockade during the upcoming SSC examinations.
“The liaison committee of the BNP-led 20-party alliance will decide in this regard,” Khan said while replying to a question from a reporter about their stance.
The BNP leader however did not mention any date when the liaison committee may sit in a meeting.
He was speaking to journalists after meeting BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office.
Earlier in the day, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid called upon the alliance to withdraw the ongoing nationwide blockade by three days considering the upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations beginning on February 2.
Around 14, 79,266 examinees from 27,808 educational institutions across the country are expected to sit for the exams. A total of 297 overseas students will also sit for the tests in eight overseas centres under Dhaka Board.
The agitation that began centering the first anniversary of January 5 elections this month claimed at least 35 lives so far including more than half of who are not affiliated to politics.
The written exams will end on March 10 with the practical exams beginning on the next day.
Khaleda Zia, BNP chairperson and also chief of the 20-paty alliance, called the indefinite blockade from January 5 as the government did not allow her party and its allies to hold a rally in the capital.
