Police recovered 20 crude bombs, eight machetes and more than 100 iron rods after raiding a dormitory of the Dhaka University this afternoon.

The law enforcers carried out the raid at different rooms in Surjya Sen hall following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League and recovered the weapons from 10 rooms allegedly occupied by the party men.

At least five students were injured during the clash between the followers of the hall unit BCL president and general secretary around 3:30pm following an altercation over a trifling matter.

The clashing BCL men exploded two crude bombs at the dormitory playground during the clash.

Later, police along with university authorities rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.

The injured were identified as-- Nahid, Shahzad, Monir, Sani and Abu Sayeed. They were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the university medical centre.

A three-member committee was formed to investigate the incident, Prof Amzad Ali, acting proctor of the university, said adding that they raided the dormitory to avoid further clash.

Amzad said the clash ensued following an altercation between two first year students of the factions over using bathroom last night.

Terming the incident as 'unexpected', Mehedi Hasan Mollah, DU BCL president, said they cannot identify those involved in the incident as they were freshers.
