2 temples torched in Bagerhat

Miscreants torched two Hindu temples and vandalised two idols in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat early today.
Law enforcers picked up three BNP supporters suspecting their involvement with the arson attack on the temples, said Md Hayatul Aslam, additional superintendent of police in Bagerhat.
Locals said four to five people have set fire to the temples -- Shri Shri Radha-Gobinda Mandir and Kali Mandir -- pouring petrol around 1:30am.
They saw the fire when they came out of their houses hearing sounds from the temples at Uttar Kochubunia, a Hindu populated village of Ranchandrapur area, our district correspondent reports quoting witnesses.
However, they did not recognise the suspected people who set the temples afire, witnesses said.
After seeing the blaze, locals doused the fire.
Wooden materials and tins of the tin-shed room of Radha-Gobinda temple were gutted in the arson, said Paritosh Halder, general secretary of the temple management committee.
