2 Shibir cadres beaten up for torching bus in Rajshahi

A mob beat up two cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, after they torched a passenger bus in Paba upazila of Rajshahi this evening.

Both hands of Moshiur Rahman and Abdul Awal were broken, said Motiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Poba Police Station, told our Rajshahi correspondent.

Police rescued the Shibir cadres from the mob and admitted them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he added.

The incident occurred in Teghor area around 6:00pm when some 12 Shibir cadres waylaid the Rajshahi-bound passenger bus from Tanore upazila and torched it after pouring petrol.

Later the passengers along with the locals captured two of the attackers while they were fleeing, said police and witnesses.

The mob beat them up before the police reached the spot. Police found the Shibir cadres in an unconscious state, said the police officer.

The bus was however partially burnt and the local people doused the fire with water and sand.

None of the bus was reported to be hurt in the fire, said the police.
