2 schoolboys hurt as robbers hurl bombs in Meherpur

Two schoolboys sustained splinter injuries when robbers hurled two crude bombs at a picnic bus carrying the members of a youth club in Meherpur Sadar upazila last night.

The bus came under the attack around 10:00pm, minutes after starting for Swapnapuri picnic spot in Dinajpur along with the members of Jubo Sanga Club Pathagar at Asharafpur village in Sadar upazila.

The bomb hit the windshield of the bus leaving the two club members injured, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting Sheikh Atiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Meherpur Sadar Police Station.

A gang of 10 to 12 people hurled the bombs when the driver sped up the bus ignoring their attempt to intercept the vehicle, the OC said.

The robbers however fled the scene as locals were rushing to the spot hearing the explosions, the police officer said.

Injured Sejan Hossain and Akibur Rhaman, students of class IX and VIII of Ashrafpur High School are undergoing treatment at Meherpur Sadar Hospital with splinter injuries in their hand and cheek respectably.

But they are out of danger, the police official said quoting doctors.

In another incident, a couple received severe injuries when cattle lifters threw two bombs at them at Bhitapara village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur early today.

Right hand of the husband and a portion of waist of the wife have blown away, SM Reza, residential medical officer of Gangni Upazila Health Complex told The Daily Star.

Musudul Alam, OC of Gangni Police Station, said a group of seven to eight people stormed into cowshed of Ali around 1:30am.

Sensing their presence, Ali and his wife Nargis Khatun woke up and went to the shed to see the matter.

Being resisted by them, the cattle lifters hurled two crude bombs at the couple and left the scene with two cows.
