2 robbers killed in Sirajganj

An alleged robber was beaten to death and another crashed under the wheels of a train while fleeing in Kamarkhand upazila of Sirajganj on Thursday night.

One of the dead was Milon Al Mahmud alias Majnu, 30, son of Yusuf Sheikh of Baranga village in the upazila. The identity of the other could not be known immediately.

Three robbers went to the jewellery shop of Ramchandra Sarkar at Jhaoil Bazar around 10:30pm. The locals chased and caught two of the criminals and beat them up, said Babul Uddin Sardar, officer-in-charge of Kamarkhand Police Station, quoting locals.

Majnu died on the spot. However, the other escaped.

Another robber was killed in the train accident around half a kilometre off the spot while trying to flee after being chased by the locals, the police official said.

On information, police went to the spot and recovered the bodies.

According to the OC, Majnu stood accused in two criminal cases, including one for robbery and another for murder.

The bodies were sent to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital for autopsies.
