2 killed in Rajshahi road crash

Two people were killed and three injured as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch at Motihar of Rajshahi city early today.

The deceased Abdur Rahim, 35, was a resident of Bishwanathpur village, and Abdul Kader, 30, was of Manoharpur village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

A Chittagong-bound mango-laden truck from Chapainawabganj skidded off the Kharkhari Bypass Road at Moslem intersection in Motihar area and fell into a roadside ditch around 3:00am after its driver lost control over the steering, said Masudur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Matihar Police Station.

Rahim and Kader died on the spot and three others injured during the accident, SI Rahman said.

On information, police from Matihar Police Station recovered the bodies and sent those to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The injured were rushed to the hospital.

Police seized the truck but its driver and helper managed to flee.

A case was filed in connection with the road accident.
