The two prime suspects arrested over the killing of four of a family in Keraniganj today confessed their role in the murder of the couple and their children last Wednesday.
They confessed to the murder during primary interrogation, said Habibur Rahman, police superintendent of Dhaka at a press briefing.
Seven persons, including the two, were arrested, SP Habibur Rahman told reporters at the media centre of DMP in Dhaka during the presser.
On Wednesday morning, gagged bodies of a couple and their monor children were found, with their hands and legs tied up, from a house in Kokandi area.
The dead were identified as Mohammad Saju, 30, his wife Ranjina Begum, 25, their seven-year-old son Imran and two-year-old daughter Sanjida, alias Moni.
“Saju was a member of a dacoit ring and was involved in several illegal businesses including trade of contraband Yaba,” SP Habibur Rahman said.

THE ARESTEES

The seven were arrested in separate drives in the country.
Two among the arrested, Sumon and Jonny, were prime suspects. They were arrested from Gazipur’s Mirzapur and Munshiganj’s Srinagar respectively.
The five others were associates of the murder, the SP said. “They helped the culprits to escape and were keeping an eye on the police.”
“Three among the five associates are women.”
Sumon and Jonny later confessed their crime before the media.
Earlier, South Keraniganj police said three people were already in custody over the murders.

MURDER, YABA, THEN MURDER AGAIN

Saju was a member of a dacoit ring and he was murdered during a feud involving distribution of their loot, SP Habibur Rahman said.
Also, Saju had extramarital affairs with the wives of Jonny and another Sumon, who is now absconding. “All these factors combined contributed to the killings.”
Saju was the first to be murdered, the SP said. “Then the murderers feasted on Yaba over the dead body of Saju. After a round of Yaba, they murdered his wife Ranjina.”
Jonny killed the two children afterwards, he added.
