Detectives have detained two people along with counterfeit notes worth Tk 23 lakh and fake note-making materials from Basabo in Dhaka and Siddhirganj of Narayanganj last night.

Of the detainees, Md Alauddin, 40, is involved in manufacturing fake note while the other was identified as Md Mamun, 42.

A team of Detective Branch of police nabbed Mamun conducting  a raid at Basabo yesterday and seized 200 counterfeit notes of Tk 1000 from his possession, said Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, at a press briefing at the DMP media centre.

Later, on the basis of information given by Mamun, the DB team raided Alauddin’s residence in Siddhirganj and caught red him when he was making fake currencies, the DMP official said adding Alauddin used the flat as his production house of the counterfeit notes.

Police also seized fake notes worth Tk 21 lakh, currency making papers, a laptop, three printers and others equipment from the house.

Earlier, two separate cases were filed against them with Mirpur and Kalabagan police stations after they were captured two times on charge of the illegal trading.

“During the primary interrogation, Aaluddin confessed that they went on production of fake-note after securing bail from the court in the two cases,” Monirul said.

The production coast of Tk 1 lakh fake notes is only Tk 3,000 to Tk 4,000, Alauddin said when the detainees were paraded before the reporters.
