Police detained two people from different parts of Feni Sadar upazila last night for their alleged link with the killing of Ekramul Haque, chairman of Phulgazi upazila in Feni.
Law enforcers detained Anwar Hossain from his Baligao village and Alauddin from Sorisadi village of the upazila in separate raids last night, our Feni correspondent reports quoting Paritosh Ghosh, superintendent of police of the district.
On Wednesday, 23 people were detained in the district for interrogation in this connection.
Among the detained 21 persons were freed showing the rest two as arrested in connection with the murde.  
On the basis of specific information given by the two arrestees, police detained Anwar Hossain and Alauddin in this connection, the SP said while talking to reporters at a press briefing held at his office around 12:15am today.
When journalist asked whether Joynal Hazari and Nizam Uddin Hazari will be detained or not, Paritash said anyone would be detained in the interest of the investigation.
On Tuesday, a group of 30-35 attackers shot Ekramul, president of the upazila unit Awami League, in the chest and then set fire to his car in broad daylight before hundreds of people in Feni town.
The victim’s elder brother Rezaul Haque Jasim filed the case with the Feni Model Police Station against BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury and 34 unknown persons.
Besides, Awami League leaders and activists formed a human chain at the Phulgazi upazila headquarters sat about 10:00am demanding immediate arrest of the main perpetrators behind the killing.
Taking part in the human chain, Nizam Uddin Hazari, Awami League lawmaker of the Feni-2 constituency demanded immediate arrest of killers and exemplary punishment.
After the human chain, Abdul Alim, general secretary of Feni district unit Awami League read out a written statement at a press conference held at the party office.
In the statement, Alim pointed finger at Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury who contested in the Phulgazi upazila poll on behalf of BNP but lost to Ekram for the killing and demanded his instant arrest.
On Thursday, Nizam Uddin Hazari alleged the sacked AL leader Joynal Hazari knows about the killers of Phulgazi Upazila Chairman Ekramul Haque and demanded his arrest for the killing.
Ekram's family members lodged a case where Local BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury has been shown as the prime suspect in the killing.
