2 die after inhaling toxic gas in septic tank

Two people died and two others became gravely ill after inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a septic tank in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj today.

The dead were identified as Shahadat Hossain, 28, and Farhad, 29, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.

Sumon Mia, 38, and Nazim, who fell sick, were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in grave condition.

Day-labourers Farhad, Sumon and Nazim took part in clearing a septic tank in the house of Abdul Malek in the morning, said Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bandar Police Station.

“Malek’s grandchild Shahadat also joined them. As the four climbed down the septic tank around 9:00am, they fell sick,” the OC said.

“They were rushed to Narayanganj General Hospital in critical condition. The on-duty doctors declared Farhad and Shahadat brought dead,” he added.

Later, Sumon and Nazim were shifted to the DMCH with deteriorating condition, the police official said.
