Chittagong Metropolitan Police yesterday suspended two of its constables for helping five arrested militant suspects talk over the mobile phone.

The constables are Khorshed Alam and Md Ayub of Detective Branch (DB) of police.

CMP Deputy Commissioner (DB) Kusum Dewan suspended the duo for helping the alleged militants talk over the phone while they were in DB custody, said sources.

On Sunday, detectives caught the alleged militants from a hotel in the port city. They are Alam Yasin of Pakistan, and Abdul Majid, Shafiullah, Salamat Ullah and Md Amin of Bangladesh.

On Monday, the court of Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Syed placed them on a five-day remand.

The five were sent to Dhaka on Tuesday for interrogation by a joint interrogation cell formed by the home ministry, said sources at the CMP.
