2 'cop killers' killed in Ctg 'gunfight'

Two suspected killers were killed in a “gunfight” with police at Halishahar in Chittagong city while law enforcers went there to nab persons accused in a cop killing case early today.

Three police personnel including sub-inspector Pritom sustained bullet injuries during the “gunfight”, said Kazi Matiur Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Double Mooring Police Station.

Deceased—Nasif, 25, was a resident of Halishahar while Rajib, 25, from Double Mooring area of the port city—reports our correspondent.

A “gunfight” occurred around 4:00am at Baribadh area of Halishahar when a team of police went there to arrest the people accused in a case filed for killing a policeman, the OC said.

Miscreants stabbed dead a police nayek in Agrabad of Chittagong Monday night while he was returning home after completing his duty at Oxygen intersection, the OC added.

After the murder, police filed a case with Double Mooring Police Station against several people including Nasif and Rajib.

As soon as the law enforcers reached the Baribadh area early today, the miscreants opened fire on them, forcing the policemen to retaliate with fire.

After the “gunfight”, police found the bodies of Nasif and Rajib lying on a pool of blood.

The law enforcers also recovered a gun, several machetes and five bullets from the spot, the police official added.
