2 ‘Bangladeshi’ workers buried under Malaysia collapsed site

Two workers, believed to be Bangladeshis, were buried under scaffolding which fell on them at the Ampang LRT site in Petaling Jaya of Malaysia on Wednesday, reports The Star.

Selangor Fire and Rescue department assistant operations director Mohd Sani Harul‎ said the department was alerted about the incident at about 4:29pm.

"When we arrived, we found that there were around eight people working ‎at the scene when the incident occurred," he told reporters at the scene Wednesday.

He added that as of 7:30pm, six victims were already rescued while it was believed that another two others were still trapped in the rubble.‎

Mohd Sani said that of the six rescued, four were sent to Putrajaya Hospital while another two were sent to a private clinic for treatment.

He added that all suffered minor injuries.

"We have mobilised our team from Puchong and Shah Alam to the scene as well as our K9 unit to search and track for the two who were believed to be still trapped.

"Our K9 unit has already tracked the area that they are trapped in but we are still working to remove the rubble to rescue them," he said adding that the condition of the two trapped were still unknown.‎

He added that all the workers were believed to be Bangladeshi nationals.

In a statement, Prasarana said the incident occurred when the "form work and scaffolding collapsed during the concreting process of the deck slab" at the extension project site in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru.

"Rescue work is ongoing. The injured workers were immediately given first aid treatment and are currently being treated at the nearby hospital.

"The Emergency Response Team, as well as the police and Fire and Rescue Services have been mobilised and are at the site of the incident," it said.
